J Tushar Xavier went through a job interview and said:

Hi, I am Tushar and I attended the Campus Interview for Satyam at Anna University on 09-Apr-2005. I got placed in Satyam Computer Services Ltd. and hence I would like to give a brief description of the entire process. Its generally a 2-day process. The First day is the conduction of the Logical Ability and Verbal Ability test. There is a 1/4 negative marking for every wrong answer in the Logical ability test and thus my advice is to avoid guesses. Each of logical and verbal ability test is of 30 minutes duration ( a total of 1 hour duration). You can even share your time (say 40 mins. for Logical Ability and 20 mins. for Verbal Ability). There is no negative marking for the Verbal Ability paper. You are given 15 Logical ability questions and 30 Verbal Ability questions. You may even attempt only 7-8 Logical Ability questions as I has done so, but mind you that the answers need to be surely correct and just a guess. If you are short listed (i.e., got selected) through this logical and verbal ability test then you would be most probably called for the very next day for the conduction of Group Discussion (GD), then the subsequent Technical and HR Interview. The spot GD topic would not be much difficult in nature. My tip to you is not to start the discussion but be the second talker so that you can find a strong point to talk for in opposition to the one who has started the discussion. Once you have cleared the GD you would be asked to fill up the Resume and then called for the Combined Technical and HR interview. This is the last round and the most easiest round to clear. The things they expect are:- Basic Concepts; Grasping Knowledge; Communication Skills; and Achievement Orientation. They don’t expect any other thing other than the above four points. For this my tip to you is that Be confident but do not openly show/reveal that you are confident. Moreover try to show that you are a polite and an humble person. That’s it and there is no need for you to keep your fingers crossed as you would be sure by now that you are selected. I got selected and so would you. All The Best guys and gals. Any queries, please mail me at itechtushar@yahoo.com
Thank You for this opportunity. Bye.

i had a campus test of satyam on 11th june 2005.
there are 3 rnds
1. logical aptitude test
2. gd
3. tech and hr (interview)

rnd 1. there were 15 questions
some questions like
1. question on simple interest.

2. question on average .

3. question on probability(RS aggarwal–> bulb question that how
many bulb will be good .

4. question on verbal coding very easy.like kijn is coded as ljko

5,6. question on logical reasoning
like two statements are given tell the assumption in statements.

7. a graph of company was given to find the average of four yrs
profit.

8. series question n,t easy.
like some series was given and series was modified four times with
some logic . and one series was given find the series after four
steps with applying same logic.

9. one more logical question
like grouping
l can,t go with p.
m cant go with n.
like that that was easy but tricky.

10.question on cube

11-15 some questions i didn,t read them becos they were looking
lengthy

suggestion for preparation
do RS aggarwal but don,t rely on that too much

also do IMS cat material . becos evry question was tricky.
i attempt 11 questions n i cleared the test .
remember there is also a upper cutoff , my friend did 15th right he
was out , and mind that there is negetive marking so don,.t make
guesses .
attemp atleast 10-11 questions but try to be them right .
even in my college a girl was seleced she had done only 6 qus but
they were right . one more thing they also check accuracy

for logical questions do IMS logical mannual and if possible do
BARRON LOGICAL QUESTIONS . there were some direct questions from
BARRONS.

2. GD

TOPICS
1. dress code in college.
2. home wife of carrer woman.
3. vulgarity in movies.
4. mecy killing should be allowed or n,t .
5. extra marrital realationships.

i failed in GD ,it is totally luck. it,s totally subjective depends
on pannel
becos they cleared only 1-2 from each group of 10
in my group of 10 only 4 persons were speaking including me but they
took only 2 i was out .
wht i suggest they r n,t looking more on communication skills as
comared to points on topic u speak so better to give new points to
them.

I just checked that whether any one of the 10 numbers is divisible by 7 or not. It
would reject the possibility of answer. The option A consisted 10 numbers which were
not divisible by seven. In the rest of the options at least 1 number was there which
was divisble by 7.

Group Discussions: (Appeared 108 in group of 10), (Time: 10 mins)
Shortlisted for PI: 43
i> Effect on youth of Indian movies. (my topic)
ii> Should GD be conducted so as to select students in campus?
iii> India and UN
And i dont remember rest.
My experience: I was not the initiator. Neither i was second nor third. When as the
fourth person I started at a time 4 people started too simultaneously. It was just a
mess. I kept quiet. But I though this wont do. I just made all of them shut upand
said,”Just maintain the quoram. Lets everybody speak individually”. This was followed
for hardly 1 mins and again the same thing happened. The our observer started to ask
individually to some people for conclusion.
According to me GD was not all satisfactory for me. But I got through.
One of my friend was the initiator in another group and he initiated well. He thot
now his turn is over and he just kept quiet. He was deselected.
Interview Experience:
Technical (around 15 mins)
He asked about project, just the concepts which I used. Further questions were: I
was straight forward and precised becoz I didnt knew much in detail the answers. He
was not at all grilling.
1> What is a file?
2> WHat is a pointer?
3> What is data and information?
4> Steps of Software Engineering.
Waterfall model.
5> Paging concept.
6> Queue?
7> Whatz the other name can we use instead of FIFO in Queue (Ans: LILO)
8> What is Primary Memory, Secondary Memory, RAM, Working memory etc.
9> Connection of VB and MS Access.
I did not answered many questions. Luckily i was asked the basic concepts only. It
is beneficial to appear for the PI in the first lot itself.
HR:
Very very simple. All the candidates who have appeared for Tech Interview was to
appear for the HR. And then finally the results came. HR was very simply. They asked
about my 1 year gap. And next question,
“Work environment of Satyam” which I had written in “Why do u want to join Satyam”
in their PI Sheet. It was very sinple. Mainly they chekd our communications.

jadha went through a job interview and said:

It looks like Indians are being treated like school kids isntead of focussing on real work experience these people are being given exams to enter 500$ per year jobs what a shame!!

Aparna went through a job interview and said:

Hi all,

I got selected in Satyam in 2005 March.
There is a lot of input here regarding the aptitude test and the interview.

But actually GD is the grey area.I hope my tips help.

Three most important things for GD:
1. Communication skills
Involves talking and listening. Most people manage to talk but hardly anyone listens. Make sure you are a good listener!!

2.General Knowledge
I feel its also important to be aware of the current affairs. Read the newspapers regularly (esp editorials)

3.Body Language
I wonder why nobody realizes how imp it is. To tell you frankly I didnt have many points for my GD topic (relevence of panchtantra in the modern world). There was hardly any contradiction possible, but my body language saved me.
Always make sure you are in an attentive posture. Maintain eye contact with all your group mates while speaking. Never show emotions of displeasure on your face.

Some minor details
-The only response need not be contradiction. You can add on to someone’s views also.
-If someone is very silent in your group, give him/her a chance to speak.
-Never address the moderator or even look at him/her
-Dont harp on the same point. Rethink your opinion in the light of what others have said.
-Oppose ideas not people.
E.g You are wrong. -bad
I dont agree with you. -right.

Thats all frm me. All the very best.

Korula went through a job interview and said:

I attended Satyam offcmpus last week 26th Feb2006 in Bangalore,
I went up to GD, Mainly the Pattern for written Test is 15 questions in 30 Min.
Each question carries 1 MARK and for every wrong answer 0.25 MARK
There is a Negative Marking So be Careful. Don’t attempt all the Questions there is upper cut off too, If U r Sure about the Answers only attempt it,

Attempt 12 Questions out of 15, And Make Sure all are Correct, If u know only 9 attempt only 9 questions, Don’t Try Luck by Flook Method, U have to Maintain
Accuracy, Go in a Group and Write Exam So that All will be Selected.

All questions are Simple. And for some of the questions None of these is also a Answer, I attempted 12 and I am sure 11 are Correct.
Some of the questions

1) A Hexagon(H1) with all sides of length ‘a’, If Midpoints of the sides of Hexagon are Joined we can get another Hexagon(H2), What is the ratio of Areas of H2 and H2?
2) One question on Ratio Propotion Simple one
3) One question is on arrange seating on a table
4) GRE type one question

10 22 31 45

Answer is 193
Solution is 10+22=32-3=29
22+31=53-3=50
That is the Logic Adding two number s in the lower row and subtract 3 from it..

It was quite long, i dont remember. I used hit and trial method to solve this. There were 10 numbers in each choice (four multiple).
I just checked that whether any one of the 10 numbers is divisible by 7 or not. It would reject the possibility of answer. The option A consisted 10 numbers which were not divisible by seven. In the rest of the options at least 1 number was there which was divisble by 7.

When as the fourth person I started at a time 4 people started too simultaneously. It was just a mess. I kept quiet. But I though this wont do. I just made all of them shut upand said,”Just maintain the quoram. Lets everybody speak individually”. This was followed for hardly 1 mins and again the same thing happened. The our observer started to ask individually to some people for conclusion.
According to me GD was not all satisfactory for me. But I got through.
One of my friend was the initiator in another group and he initiated well. He thot now his turn is over and he just kept quiet. He was deselected.

Interview Experience:
Technical (around 15 mins)
He asked about project, just the concepts which I used. Further questions were: I was straight forward and precised becoz I didnt knew much in detail the answers. He was not at all grilling.

It is beneficial to appear for the PI in the first lot itself.

HR:
Very very simple. All the candidates who have appeared for Tech Interview was to appear for the HR. And then finally the results came. HR was very simply. They asked about my 1 year gap. And next question,
“Work environment of Satyam” which I had written in “Why do u want to join Satyam” in their PI Sheet. It was very sinple. Mainly they chekd our communications.

Well friends, just beleive in urself. Its very easy, simple. If ur communication is good, u can talk in front of 10 people and have some knowledge about the main subjects like OS, C etc u get through. All the Best. U can do it.

========

Today was the second day

==>2nd round is Group discussion
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
duration : 10 min
no. of participants: 10
Topic: computer usage by children below 12 good or bad
other gd topics:
2)Cell phones ban in colleges
3)If a lumpsome of money given how would u spend them
4)Is china threat of India
No of ppl selected from our batch: 2
there were 4 girls and 6 boys
one guy immediately started the discussion without any introduction(hmm i thought of introducing myself but as it had been already started I recited) then two or three ppl started to argue then (I was the fourth) I had some good points so I have put forward but in mean while one guy(who initiated) started shouting at every one. No one was listening to any, so kept mum, every one is sayin “order in group” one guy was not giving any chance to others, After I put forward the strongest points I asked a girl who was tryin to speak to put forward her point and lated one guy asked me to speak(tryin to show his leadership skills i guess) then I talked for a while and asked some other to speak. every one was arguing and were blunt. It was total chaos I did’nt knew what to do ’cause if I shout it will have a negative impact if I dont no points will be awarded. so I have put many of my points I thought to every one especially those who were
listening.
Later the invigilator asked each one of us to conclude so every one had their chance. each one of us did that in a sentence One guy who did’nt allowed any one to speak did it in a paragraph :) that was it.
Me and the guy who spoke long ie the paragraph guy were selected.
time of gd: 9.30
time of results: 1.30
Those who were selected in GD were asked to fill a application(actually a resume in their format) of all the details.
==> third round was TECH & HR:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
the panel consisted of two one was a tech (senior member of technical team) and the other was a HR(member of HR team)

I was the second person to be interviewed, The Hr started by asking questions from the resume(so be clear with what u have mentioned in ur resume)
Later the tech guy asked abt my fav subjects so he has asked questions relating to that, and on project or s/w that I have developed. Hr asked abt my ambitions, what do u know abt satyam, and similar gen questions.
Tech guy brushed abt all subjects maily from c,c++,unix
Hr guy asked me to speak for two min abt the paper presentation which I have mentioned. and Hr asked abt some other details hobbies n stuff like that. Hr guy asked why I want to join satyam n any programs I have conducted. blah blah blah the interview had lasted for only 15 to 20 min.

they have said the results will be announced at 3 pm but it was 9:30Pm

after that the moment of my life which I have been waiting for came atlast, the final selected candidated were announced and there came my name and number it was a moment of triumph and bliss, we were asked to go into a room and wait. Later all the members from satyam cordially invited us into THE FAMILY OF SATYAM
they spoke abt few things of satyam(to my surprise they spoke the same things which i have told abt satyam in hr interview) and gave some details and conditions like pay scale contract period etc., etc., with a bid good bye! it was time for celebration.

so, guys it was really a gr8 exp. for me, it was my first interview and I am happy for getting through it. I have shared all my experiance as I thought it may be
some use to u guys.

Hi Friends I attended for satyam off campus on 10Th of march 2006.Total attended: nearly 8000. Finally Selected: 290
Exam is 15 Questions and 30 minutes duration.
My paper was good. Most of the questions from R.S Agarwal
In my paper 5 to 6 questions on reasoning and remaining Quantitative Aptitude.

1. From time and work like 3 men work equals to 8 women work. And a work is
completed in 14 days by 5 men and 8 women .Then how many women are required to complete
the same work in 10 days.(numbers are not same )

2. A question like 2 puffs is equal to 4 breads and 3 breads are equal to 6 cakes.
Then 8 puffs equal to how many cakes.

3. A question from simple interest. A person took 1, 00,000 amt and interest rate
is 10% for 5 years. And he paid the amount in installments in first year 10,000 and
in second year 20,000 in 3 rd year 30,000 ,in 4 th year 40,000.Then what is amount
he have to pay in 5 th year(ans :50,000)

4.Another question from time and work X can do 1/3 rd of work in 10 days and Y
can do Ń™ th work in 12 days and Z can do the work in 15 days. If X,Y,Z work together
for 3 days after that X,Y leaves then how many days it takes for Z to complete the
work.

5. One question from Partner ship I doesnТt remember the question.

Remaining questions I donТt remember. And I did exactly 9 questions I think those
9 are correct. There is 0.25 ЦVe marking for wrong answer try to avoid guessing.
Finally from written 1800 was short listed for GD.
In GD group consists of 10 members. My topic is ĐŁCELL PHONES USAGE IN EDUCATIONAL
INSTITUTIONS.In our group 5 guys and 5 girls.2 people conducted our GD.At beginning they said the rules dont see ours, try to interact with your team.
First they asked how many of u participated in GD.And then they give chance to select the topic and each member proposed one topic. Finally they give the above topic.
First one guy initiated and then I took the chance and rise almost all important points. In our team only one guy talked Цve to the topic. In our team 4 members cleared the GD.And other teams GD topics are:
1. Public Sectors Vs Private Sectors
2. About Bush visiting India etc

Coming to interview:
In my panel 2 members are 1 Technical person and 1 HR.
First they introduced and then HR asked tell me about urself other than in the
resume.
Then Tech person asked about Project and he asked about platform of my project
etc.Then he asked interesting area then I said DBMS then he poured a lot of questions
in between HR asked What do u know about satyam, and Why Satyam. are you willing to work
in Bhuvaneshwar.If your parents doesnt agree to move from Hyderabad then what will you do. So be confident. They just looking confidence and basic knowledge in subjects.

hi friends i attended satyam off campus on 29th april at DIT dehradun. total attended 2000(approx).final selected 60. there are 15 questions in 30 minutes.i cleared the written but failed to qualify GD.so be prepere for GD.mostly questions are from R.S.Aggarwal.

there are two series questions.one from profit/loss,one from permut and combination,one from boat and stream,1 from time and work,5 were logical resoning,2 were from output questions.

i attended only 9 questions and i cleared the written, so dont try guesses.even my classmate attended only 5 questions but all the 5 were correct and she finally placed.so avoid guesses.

The tech interview was just basics abt semi conductors,periodic table n abt a mini project i did in my third year but some of my friends but grilled abt c & data structures for abt an hour(looks like i got lucky) n the hr interview was basically based upon a questionaire they give u after u clear the g.d.It had basic qs abt ur goals n aspirations n how satyam wld help u get there.

Hi All

As everyone is aware that Raju was a big liar and he made fictious accounts to show assets which were non existent so I suggest everyone to be prepared for the worst and at the same time things will improve once they settle down … some people become anoixious and take extreme steps I advice them not to panic if not the IT job some else would come it is just a matter of time so in this period stay calm and try to find alternatives definitely the worst days will go sooner or later …. for some spritual help at this time I suggest http://www.irf.net
