MTN South Africa houses MTN, South Africa’s second-largest cellular network operator with a subscriber base of about 6.3 million people, and MTN Service Provider. The company’s GSM network is one of the largest national networks in the world, covering a geographical area the size of France and Germany combined. It provides access to 93% of the country’s population, with some 4 000 sites covering 19 200 km of road and 900 000 km of land. MTN South Africa has interests in Service Provider iTalk, application provider Leaf Wireless, and customer retention company e-Bucks.

MTN International offers cellular network access and associated services through its subsidiaries and joint ventures in Nigeria, Cameroon, Uganda, Rwanda and Swaziland. Its investment strategy is based on stimulating communications development in Africa, using the GSM network as a platform.
