11 Questions 50 Marks 1 Section and Time was 1 Hour.
Venu - Pune (BMCC College)
Time 9 to 11.30
Two test Each of One Hour.
Firs one was of Maths and Analytical which i m giving here.
The other was English which was damn easy. (huh I Solved one of my maths paper question during English Exam…LOL)
******************************************************************************
1.
complete the series…
1,5,14,30,45,81….
ANs.
Soln…
the series is x + square-of(x+1)
i.e. 1 + square(1+1) = 1+square(2) = 5
5+9 =14
14 + (4*4) = 14+16 =30…
and So on…
4 marks
******************************************************************************
2.
There was a question on lace. One woman purchased x meter of some lace and y meter of other. x was cheaper. then the question had some conditions like she purchased the total cost of lace was less then 10 dollors and cost of lace was same as some ratio. i didnt remember that excatly. but was an easy question if u know maths and a Bit of commonsense.
I got the answer after the test. i made a silly mistake and hence i lost 6 marks.
6 marks.
******************************************************************************
3. Intresting one.
2 men were taking bottels of liquor.
first one was having 64 bottells.
Second one was having 20 bottels.
On airport the paid the custom duty on these bottels.
The firs one gave 40$ + 5 bottels.
Second one gave 2 bottels and no money but in exchange he got back 40 dollors.
Give the Tax per bottel and the cost of the bottel.
Soln. The immediate way to solve this quest. u get in mind will be…
Tax on 64 bottels = 40$ + 5x
Tax on 20 bottels = 2x - 40$
Where x = cost of Bottel
hence
64/20 = (40+5x)/(2x-40)
But WAIT…..
I made this mistake…
U should not repeat it…
after giving 5 bottels as tax the bottel left with the first man was 59 and
after giving 2 bottels as tax the bottel left with the second man was 18.
So they paid tax on 59 and 18 bottels and not 64 and 20.
The trick was wasy to guess but if u get nervous and dont use ure Head then u will surely go wrong.
So Avoid Carelessness.
(4 Marks)
******************************************************************************
4. Easy
There is a 5 digit numbers.
U have to guess them.
First num was twice the last and half of the third and something like that….
Every Condition will give u a Digit.
AS easy as ABCD.
4 marks.

5. Easy
My purse was stolen. I remeber i Purchased two sthings from a soft before i lost my purse. The first one for the 10% of the money i had in purse and second one again for 10% of the money i was left with in purse.
I the bill i paid to the shop was 19 Rs. what amount of money did i lost.
Ans… easy dear. Solve it…
dont be careless… Think before u write. My friend got so excited on such an easy question that she wrote the answer as 100 instead of 81.
So take care..
2 marks.
******************************************************************************
6. Easy
There was a pole of 200 meter and a tower. The distance between them was 250 meters or so(I dont rem the excat fig.).
There was a Box x meter away from the base of the tower. Find the Height of the Tower.
The fig may not be correct…
Ans.
Soln. was damn easy. I got the answer at first look and i didnt even did any Ruf work.
But to be safe….
Use Pythogores theorem and u will get answer in a wink of ur eyes.
4 Marks.
******************************************************************************
7. Tuff.
There was 5 Positions in a bank. V,W,X,Y,Z
and there was 5 person onh these post. A,B,C,D,E.
Then there was some conditions given like
A played chess only C.
W is Neighbour of X.
and so on.
U have to tell which one was having the post x,y,z,v,w.
Soln.
Question was damn easy but I think there was a Condition missing cuz i was getting 3 person on a single post with other two vacant and i am sure i was right in solving the question.
Then i made a guess and Filled the position.
I think I got that right.
6 Marks.
******************************************************************************
8. Tricky.
There were three persons. They have to lock a door and distribute the keys among them selves such that
->Any two people can open the door.
->No single person can open the door.
Tell me how many minimum locks and keys will u have to use lock the door.
Soln.
I answered 2 Locks and 4 Keys such that two keys are duplicates. distribute them one each to every one and one out of the three will get a duplicate.
First Person Second Person Third Person
K1 K1(duplicate) K2 and K2 Duplicate
I thought my answer is correct but some frns. suggested the correct answere is
3 locks and 6 keys with three duplicates and i think they were right.
cuz then in my case First and Second togather will not be able to open the gate.
Tell me the correct ans if u get one at mukundis@email.com.
The question is correct. There was no extra condition given.
******************************************************************************
THERE WERE THREE MORE QUESTION WHICH I THINK ARE NOT WORTH OF EVEN GIVING A TRY. CUZ THEY WERE SO EASY THAT MY LIL BROTHER(HE’S IN 8TH) SOLVED THEM UP FOR ME.
(THOUGH HE SOLVED THEM BUT ACTUAALY I DONT REMEBER THOSE QUESTION)(L0L)(SORRY BUT THEN THEY WERE VERY EASY. TWO WAS ON MATHS AND OTHER WAS ON LOGIC…OR COMMON SENSE I SHOULD SAY.)
******************************************************************************
The greatest news is I got the call from Infosys and i am joining Infosys on 17th November 2003
and i owed it all to this group. thanks a lot.
I mailed my resume several times to infosys but they never gave me the call. then i read a tip posted on this Group as how to send resume to infosys. Write only Namne, qualification, marks of 1oth 12th and Final year BE. and nothing else.
Then i mailed and then i got the call within 5 days for test.
then i thought i will postpone the test for some time but then i again read something about
Infosys test on this group. It said it is damn easy. ONce u got the call for test and then u have done 70 percent of the work. U will surely get into Infosys if u have something. i mean some common sence and logic. SO i decided to take a try. I was nervous as if i was rejected then i will next have my chance after 9 months. But then i decided to go for it.
Thanks to this group.
Now only thing i have to do is work hard in company to get a -*>A

1) There was a cycle race going on. 1/5th of the those in front of a person and
5/6th of those behind him gives the total number of participants. How many people took
part in the race? (3 marks)
Ans : 31
Approach:
Let the total number of participants be X
So, [(x-1)/5 + 5(x-1)/6] = X
2) Today is Saturday. A person wants to meet a lawyer and as that lawyer is busy he
asks him to come three days after the before day of the day after tomorrow? On which
day the lawyer asks the person to come?
Ans: Wednesday
Approach:
Today=Saturday
Day after tomorrow=Monday
Day before day after tomorrow=Sunday
Three days after the day before the day after tomorrow=Wednesday
3) A person is 80 years old in 490 and only 70 years old in 500 in which year is he
born?
Ans: 570 BC
Approach:
Since the age gets decreased with the years, the years should definitely be in BC
and hence u should increment the years as u decrease the age. Therefore if he is 70
years old in 500BC, he would have born on 570 BC!!
4) A man enquires a person about the past 5 days temperatures at 12 noon in that
region. The other replies that he doesn’t remember the actual figures but there was a
different temperature on each day and that their product gives 12. Assuming the
temperature to the nearest degree what are the temperatures on the five days?
Ans: -1,-2,1,2,3
Approach:
We know that the smallest two integers that can give a product of 12 is 3*4 which is
spilt up as 2*2*3. But no temperature is the same…hence use -2 instead of 2. Now the
product becomes -12. Choose the other temperatures such that value of the product
does not change but only the sign changes. So naturally, the other two options are -1
and 1.
5) A cube is painted. It is cut into 27 cubes with three straight lines. Find the
number of cubes with
a. 3 sides painted
b. 2 sides painted
c. 1 side painted
d. no painted sides
Ans: a. 8 (4 corner cubes + 4 corner cubes)
b. 12 (center cubes at each EDGE)
c. 6 (center cubes at each FACE)
d. 1 (cube at the center of the original cube)
Approach
Draw a cube (with front, top and side faces, dont draw the inner lines. that’ll
confuse) cut it into 27 cubes. thats done by drawing 3 horizontal and 3 vertical lines
on the front face of the cube. extend those lines along the other two faces. then
COUNT accordingly.
6) A person travels at a speed of 10 mph from one city to another. However while
returning as there was not much traffic. He came with a speed of 15mph. what is his
average speed?
Ans: 12 mph
Approach:
Let the distance be X
Distance/ Time=Speed
Time taken for forward journey=X/10
Time taken for return journey=X/15
Total time for to and fro journey T =[(X/10)+(X/15)]
Total distance covered D=2X
Hence, average speed= D/T = 12mph
7) There is a peculiar island where people speak a strange language called
‘Kubi’.The men always speak truth and a women never say two 2 consecutive truth or false
statements, that is, if she says truth statement once then she says false statement
next and vice versa. The boys and girls always lie. One day I asked a child “Are you a
boy or girl ?” and the child replied in Kubi. Since I didn’t know the language, I
asked the child’s parents what it means. One of the parents said “The child says,”I am
a boy”” and the other said that “The child is a girl. He lied”.
a) Is the child a boy or a girl
b) Which parent answered first?
Ans: The child is a girl and father answered first.
Approach:
Take the statement “The child is a girl. He lied”. If ‘He lied’ is true, then the
child is a girl is a false. Likewise, is ‘He lied’ is false, then the child is a girl
is true => The second statement was given by the child’s mother and hence the father
answered first.
Take the statement “The child says,”I am a boy”. Since the father always speak the
truth, the child should have said that he was a boy. But then the child lies, so he
cannot be a boy => the child was a girl. (Confused? Try reasoning it out yourself,
u’ll understand the logic)
There is a couple and they have many children. 7 of them dont eat spinach. 5 ot
them dont eat carrot. 6 of them dont eat beans. 4 of them dont eat either spinach or
carrot. 2 of them eat neither spinach or beans and 3 of them eat neither carrot or
beans. and 1 dont eat spinach, carrot or beans. How many children r there in total?
Ans: 9 children
Approach:
4 of them don’t eat spinach or carrot => 4 of them eat beans alone.
2 of them don’t eat spinach or beans => 2 of them eat carrots alone.
3 of then don’t eat carrot or beans =>3 of them eat spinach alone.
Total children=4+2+3=9
(If some other reasoning approach was chosen, the remaining three statements could
be used. But this one is simple and I am sure that the answer is right. Try out the
other approaches anyway)
9) There are three tribes in a village. The Sorobean always speaks the truth. The
Narobean always lies and the Midorean speaks truth and false alternatively. From the
following statements, find out who belongs to which tribe.
A: I am a Sorobean
B is a Narobean
B: I am a Sorobean
C is a Midorean
C: I am a Sorobean
A is a Midorean
Ans: A –Midorean, B-Narobean, C-Sorobean
Approach:
Simple ! Assume one as Sorobean and try to satisfy the conditions. All the above
statement get satisfied only for the above answer. I think the statements that I have
given are right…am sorry if its wrong but the answer to this puzzle in the Infy paper
is the one that I have given above.
10) A flight is scheduled to depart at 12 midnight. A family arrived at the airport
10 hours late and missed the flight. If they had arrived 4 hours earlier, they would
have reached the airport 2 hours earlier to the departure of the flight. (Something
like that…not sure of the values). What is the present time ?
Ans: 4PM
Approach:
Let the present time be X
If they r 4 hours early, they arrive at airport at X+(10-4)=X-6.
The train leaves at 12 midnight => total duration from morning 12am 10 12
midnight=24 hours.
x-6 is 2 hours earlier to 12Pm =>24-(x-6)=2
X=16 hours=4PM
The paper was very easy compared to all the other papers. Have confidence and clear
analytical thinking
The pattern was like this….
U have to attend 10 puzzles in 1 hour first and then u r given an English paper of
45 questions in half an hour’s time. The puzzles have different weight-ages. Begin
with the puzzles that have more marks (8 marks n 6 marks first) and then complete the
smaller ones. If u get stuck up, skip that for the time being and finish the rest…u
can come back to it later. Also, u r allowed to have ur puzzle answer sheet with u
when u write ur English test as well. Try completing ur English test in 20 min (if
possible) n use the remaining 10 min for puzzles. Time management is very important as
far as puzzles are concerned.
Apart from the previous papers, go thru these books if u have time. The more u work,
the better u can attack the paper. Prioritize ur preparation in the following order.
1) Previous Papers (must)
2) Shakuntala Devi More Puzzles
3) Shakuntala Devi Puzzles to Puzzle You
4) GRE Barron
5) Puzzles and Teasers by George Summers
6) Ravi Narula
(To be frank…. .I never touched the last three…..just heard of those from the other
chetana members)
The duration of the paper was 2.30 hrs.
For the first half an hour a form was given to us and they ask us to fill that.
It contained d detailed information of our education with percentage and rank.
I think that is also considered during the evaluation of written paper.
After half an hour, there was written paper for 1 hour having ten puzzles to solve

Sandy’s uncle died leaving 1000 rs behind to be distributed among his five nephews.
The money is to be divided among the nephews according to their ages. A person gets
Rs 20 more than his immediate younger brother.Sandy being the youngest what was his
share?
Ans. Rs 160.0
It was quite an easy one.
let sandy’s share be x
x+x+20+x+40+x+60+x+80=1000
5x+200=1000
x=800/5
x=160

Rohit was descending from the elavator which was not working. When he had stepped
down
7 steps his sir started from the bottom of the elevator and they passed each other
and when Rohit had still 4 steps to go down, his sir reached at the top. Taking into
consideration that sir?s 2 steps took same time as Rohit?s one what were the total
no of steps?
Ans
22 steps
let no of steps be x
speed=distance/time
Distance covered by Rohit = x-7-4 (7 steps already covered and 4 were still to go)
Distance covered by sir = x
Speed of Rohit =s
Speed of sir = 2s
Time taken is equal in both the cases so
Time(rohit)=time(sir)
(x-7-4) / s = x / 2s
2x ? 22 = x
x=22

A vendor who is an ex-mathematician has a number of apples and when he arranges them
in rows of 3 he is left with one more, when he arranges them in rows of 5 again he
is left with 1 more, Same happens with when he tries to arrange them in rows of 7 and
9 that is 1 apple is left extra.
But when he arranges them in a row of 11 he is left with none. Can u tell me how
many apples were there?
Ans
946
the no is a multiple of 3,5,7,9 + a remainder of 1. So
3* 5* 7* 9= 945 + 1 =946
946 /11= 86
so it is divisible by 11 also.

A theft was reported in a p[olice station and police detained 3 persons ? Tommy, Lee
and Andy on the basis of doubt. However everyone said that he did not steal and one
among the other two is the thief. Later on police came to know that Tommy was lying.
Who was the real thief?
Ans
Tommy
He gave 2 false statements:
1: he didn?t steal though he was the thief.
2: one among the other two did it. If he is the thief how can other 2 do it.
It was very easy and infact that created a doubt n everyone cross checked it again n
again to be sure as nobody was expecting such a simple puzzle.

The temperature is noted for 5 consecutive days and it is noted that no two days
have the same temperature. Moreover the product of all the 5 readings is 12. The
difference is noted to the nearest degrees. What were the readings of the temperature?
Ans: -2, -1, 1, 2, 3
Factors of 12: 4*3,6*2
2*2*3 bt 2 cant b repeated so ?2 and to nullify -ve sign ?1 is there
so ?2 *-1 * 1 * 2 *3 = 12

Davis:Buyer
Clark:Cashier
Allen: Manager
Benett:Clerk
Ewinger:Footwalker
Lunch 11:30 ? 12:30
Two

A dice has faces 1 against 6, 3 against 5 and 2 against 4 always. How many such
combinations of faces are possible in a dice?
Ans
24
keeping 1 and 6 fixed, we can have two combinations of 6 and 3, and two of 2 and 4
that means four. And interchanging 1 and 6 we can have two more combinations that
means with one pair 8 combinations are there : 4*2=8. Similarly with other two also 8
combos. So in all 8*3=24 combos are possible.
8> (4 marks)
A boy?s age is 5 times as old as his sister. His father?s age is twice to that of
his mother who is five times as old as the boy. The sum of all of them equals to that
of his grandmother who is celeberating his 81st birthday. How old is the boy?
Ans:
5 years old
let boys age b x
sister?s = x/5
mother?s=5x
fatther?s=2(5x)
grandmother?s=81
81=x/5+x+5x+10x
81*5 = x+5x+ 25x +50x
405 = 81x
x= 405/81
x=5
so boys age is 5 years

TIPS 1:
I already mentioned that they will have some cut-off….my suggesstion
fix the target to reach that cut-off….for that, first atten the 8-marks questions
and then
6-marks question and then 4-marks…3marks
TIPS 2:
they will announce only 5 min more…..while that time, if u find any
question yet to atten, please note it down that in ur rough sheet….so that u can
solve it in
some part of english test section,if u r well good in english….because they get
back ur
puzzle question paper after 60 min time get elapsed…..but take it seriously the
english part
also….
TIPS 3:
All are repeated questions…..its better to prepare from previous question
papers….that’s enough…….
give last priority….to some puzzle books…..
NOTE about 3rd tips…. iam saying about current situation….that is currently
they are asking repeated questions….in future i don’t know….may be
different…in that case
approach some puzzle books……
shukuntala devi book’s is best…

About Aptitude Test :
Basically most of the questions from the old infy papers only. Please try to

agarwal. If you know the concept to approach the questions,it will give you lot of
chances to get into infy. Please write the solution scheme neatly in your working
papers. It gives you the additinal value when u take up interview.
My suggestions is to understand the most of questions from old infy papers. You may
be asked same type of questions with some variable values.please clearly see the
numerical values before start answering.
please follow the above step and surely it will fetch you from infy.

1.There is a escalator and 2 persons move down it.A takes 50 steps and B takes 75
steps while the escalator is moving down. Given that the time taken by A to take 1
step is equal to time taken by B to take 3 steps. Find the no. of steps in the
escalator while it is staionary.
Solution (not sure):
If A takes 1 step in one second, then B takes 3 steps in one second. If A takes t1
seconds to take 50 steps, then B takes 150 steps in t1 seconds.
For B, to take 150 steps he requires t1 seconds,
then to take 75 steps he requires t1/2 seconds.
So now, s1=50, t1 = t1 & s2=75, t2=t1/2
ans= (s1*t2 ~ s2*t1) / (t1 ~ t2) which gives 100.
so 100 steps is the answer

occupations are author, biologist, chemist and doctor, but not necessarily in that order.
Dave just told the biologist that Cathy was on her way with doughnuts. Ann is sitting
across from the doctor and next to the chemist. The doctor was thinking that Boobie
was a goofy name for parent’s to choose, but didn’t say anything. What is each
person’s occupation?
Ans: Since Dave spoke to the biologist and Ann sat next to the chemist and across
the doctor, Cathy must be the author and Ann the biologist. The doctor didn’t speak,
but David did, so Bobbie is the doctor and Dave the chemist.
