Hellenic Telecommunications (OTE) has 6.3 million access lines in service and provides local, long-distance, and international phone service. It offers data services, including leased lines and access to Infonet’s data network, and its OTEnet is a leading Greek ISP. Subsidiary Cosmote provides digital wireless service to about 4 million subscribers on its GSM (global system for mobile communications) network. The arrival of competition has OTE investing in telecom operations in Eastern Europe. The Greek state owns 34% of the company.
