The Ecolab job description for Territory Manager sounds great. The truth is you get to work 80 hours a week, with no training, for peanuts. All work, low pay. You are on call from early in the morning until 11:00 at night. They want you to sell, sell, sell, new customers all while servicing 200 customers that you already have. By servicing I mean driving out to see them whenever they call, repairing their dishmachines, fixing plastic widgets, installing dishmachines, doing collections, and rolling around in the rancid grease of restaurant floors. When you get done with 8 or 9 hours of that you can return home to the stacks of paperwork that never seem to get any smaller and realize that you can’t get it done because it needs to be done during business hours so you can call. You can’t do it during business hours though because you are too busy rolling around in restaurant filth. If you believe the hype and take the job, your outside life will be over. Hope you already have a wife because you won’t have time or money to find one.
