DSM
DSM wants to be more specialized. The company sold its commodity petrochemicals business and is in turn focusing on the more specialized businesses of life sciences and performance materials. DSM’s life sciences unit makes feedstocks used by pharmaceutical and food companies; its pharmaceutical chemicals are used in cardiovascular, AIDS, and asthma medications. The life sciences unit also produces sweeteners and food enzymes. The company’s performance materials unit makes synthetic fibers, plastics, and resins used in coatings. DSM also produces fiber intermediates, melamine, and agrochemicals.
