Energy East

Reliant Energy

Reliant Energy (formerly Reliant Resources) relies on its status as a leading US independent power producer and marketer. The company has generating plants that give it a primarily fossil-fueled capacity of approximately 19,000 MW. Shikoku Electric

Shikoku Electric Power is one of 10 regional electric utilities licensed by the Japanese government to generate, transmit, and distribute power, Shikoku (known as Yonden in Japan) provides electricity to nearly 2.9 million customers on Shikoku Island. The company has a generating capacity of 6,900 MW, primarily from nuclear and fossil-fueled plants. Hokkaido Electric Power

Hokkaido Electric Power Co. (HEPCO) distributes electricity to 3.7 million residential, commercial, and industrial customers on the northernmost Japanese island, Hokkaido. The company operates 46,000 miles of transmission and distribution lines, and it owns thermal, hydroelectric, and nuclear power plants with approximately 6,600 MW of capacity. HEPCO also purchases and markets wholesale energy; other operations include engineering and construction, energy consulting, electrical appliance sales, telecommunications, information technology, and utility related services.

Eletrobras

Eletrobras is a publicly traded government holding company for Brazilian electric companies. Eletrobras’ subsidiaries generate and transmit approximately 60% of Brazil’s electric supply. Eletrobras has a generating capacity of about 30,000 MW, most of which comes from hydroelectric plants. The company had planned to divest generation assets, however, Brazil has revised its privatization strategy to make Eletrobras and its primary subsidiaries (Furnas, Chesf, Cgtee, Eletrosul, and Eletronorte) excluded from the scheme.

Vattenfall Europe

Vattenfall Europe is a vertically integrated energy company which is organised in business units along the value creation chain. Vattenfall Europe’s assets include opencast mines in the Lusatian region, large state-of-the-art power stations in eastern and northern Germany, and the transmission grid covering the whole of eastern Germany. They also cover HEW and Bewag, the energy utilities for the cities of Hamburg and Berlin, with their cogeneration plants and distribution and district heating networks.
