Amgen
When Amgen was founded in 1980, the company consisted of a few scientists working on a single lab bench in one building. Today, it is the world’s largest biotechnology company, with approximately 14,000 staff members worldwide.
Amgen has pioneered the development of novel products based on advances in recombinant DNA and molecular biology and launched the biotechnology industry’s first blockbusters. Amgen is widely recognized as a top employer, having been included on Fortune Magazine’s “100 Best Places to Work” list and named in The Scientist’s annual survey of the best workplaces for scientists in 2004.
One Response to “Amgen”
Amgen is a big company with a small company mindset. They grew so quickly fromm a tiny start up that many of the people working there are hold-outs from the start-up days. What this means is that (and I am speaking of the marketing operations side of things where I worked) there are alot of people in management positions who really aren’t qualified to work there and wouldn’t get a job there if they had to apply for their jobs today. The result of this is a somewhat nasty environment that redefines the “blame game”. I have never seen so many people full of fear that they would go against their ethical values, become less than human, and drive people to tears with absurd notions of perfection. I want nothing more than to NEVER WORK THERE AGAIN. It was truly yucky.
